A few useful details

Work in pixels

Use the width and height requested by the destination rather than guessing from a file’s size in megabytes.

Keep proportions

An image that is 2400 × 1600 pixels becomes 1200 × 800 when scaled to half its width and height.

Export a separate copy

Download the resized image and keep the original for future crops, larger displays or another export.

Questions, answered.

Are resizing and compressing the same thing?

No. Resizing changes pixel dimensions. Compression changes how those pixels are stored. Reducing dimensions often helps file size, but the final byte size also depends on the format, quality and image content.

Will enlarging an image restore missing detail?

No. Ordinary browser resizing interpolates pixels. It cannot recover the original detail of a higher-resolution photograph, and text or edges may look soft when enlarged.

Why can I not set both dimensions while keeping the ratio?

The original width-to-height ratio determines the paired dimension. An exact box with a different ratio requires cropping, padding or distortion; proportional resizing alone cannot satisfy all three conditions.

Can this set print size in centimeters or inches?

The tool works with pixel dimensions, not a print-layout document. Physical print size depends on how many pixels are placed in each inch. Confirm the required pixel dimensions with the printer or application.

What happens to a transparent image or animation?

PNG and WebP can retain transparency; JPEG output uses a white background. Animated files are not supported, and original metadata should not be expected to survive export.
