English-like word groups and CJK characters are counted as practical units. Mixed-language totals are estimates rather than linguistic segmentation.

Why does another editor show a different word count?
Editors differ in how they treat hyphens, apostrophes, numbers and languages without spaces. Use the receiving platform’s own counter when its limit is strict.
How are Chinese, Japanese and Korean counted?
CJK characters contribute approximate counting units rather than dictionary words. For a Chinese character limit, the character count is usually more useful; check whether the destination includes punctuation and spaces.
Does a character count equal the number of bytes?
No. This tool counts Unicode code points. A code point can use more than one byte in UTF-8, and one visible emoji can contain several code points. Byte limits, visible-symbol limits and JavaScript string-length limits can therefore give different results.
Is the text sent to a server for counting?
No. The counting tool runs in your browser and does not send your input to a processing API. Loading the website still sends ordinary page requests to the hosting provider.
